You get one fixed, written price at the consult so you're not guessing. Materials move that number more than anything else in a bathroom remodel. Remodeling a small bath costs less mostly because there is less tile.
Usually the wet area — the shower, the tile, and the waterproofing — plus any plumbing you relocate. Fixtures and paint are the cheap part; the labor and the shower build are where the money goes. Good waterproofing is not where you want to save money in any home.
For a cosmetic refresh — new vanity, fixtures, paint, maybe flooring, with no layout change — sometimes. A full gut with a new shower and tile costs more, and we'll tell you honestly what your budget will and won't cover. A DIY refresh can work for paint and fixtures, but not for the wet area. A shower rebuild needs waterproofing done right the first time.
